Seeking harmony to life's melody

Computer fun before breakfast

So almost every morning my day starts with going online. Some mornings (on hula hooping days) it's via roku and likely netflix, but most mornings it starts with email. This morning I had the fun of not being able to get online. Ahhh... panic at 5 am :). Kept showing me that I had a wifi connection to my network but telling me I wasn't connected... ok.... Went to Airport utility which told me that some new device had been installed... ok.... Rebooted - still the same. Left network reconnected all fine but still same problems, connected but not connected.

Finally calmed panic to think a little more clearly and went into other room to check router and saw that lights did not look right on either one - yes I have two, long story. Decided to go for simple solutions first and unplugged everything and then plugged it back in. Went and rebooted computer again.

Checked and roku was connected so that was a good sign either way. Still couldn't connect to Safari(!) and computer still told me I had wifi. Went back into airport utility and notice was still there - but while I was reviewing it, it kinda fixed itself.... Ok, I'll take it! :) Went back and Safari was accessible again. Figure after everything restarting it needed a drop more time to refind every thing it needed to locate. I've been noticing that lots of stuff can get screwy when cable reassigns addresses and while I don't know how often this happens I think this has created issues before. While I don't know if this was the problem, I am glad I ended up going the unplugging replugging route before intense system fiddling around.

Might have been a simple silly solution (as well as an alliterative phrase) but it made me feel like a computer whisperer at 6 in the morning! :)

Thought of the day....

My life is a complicated dance to the whispered song of simplicity. Then at times it's the opposite - a simple dance to the song of complexity. :)

Edited to add - By the way - this is not a complaint but more being impressed with having learned the metaphorical moves and keeping up with the new variations and adapting to them. :)

Some weekend highlights....

Had yummy Indian buffet food.

Ended up seeing a really good Indian movie I hadn't planned on (as I wrote earlier it had been mistagged as a musical).

I got to be a good samaritan when I found someones wallet in the chair I was about to sit in at Starbucks and turned it in to the staff. I was talking to friends when guy showed up. I knew it was him cuz he started digging around my coat and stuff laying on the chair *lol*. I walked over to him and told him I found it and turned it in. He was wearing scrubs so I guess he just carries it around - I'd never remember stuff if I had to so that!

Got to skype with one of my nephews and he lasted far longer than I expected - allowing for the expected wandering attention and playing with plastic lizard and car, him not me *lol*.

Lots of coffee, yummy snacks and reading.

All in all a very nice weekend :). Hope you're doing well too!

Movie mistake win :).

I wanted to watch one of my many items on my netflix list. Actually I watch stuff all of the time but many are series that I'm making my way through and between those and adding new stuff, my list seldom gets more manageable. So I picked an Indian movie that was listed as being a musical. After about an hour into a two hour movie I was pretty sure they had mistagged it - not a musical at all. That said it turned out to be a decent thriller/mystery movie with a couple nice twists in there. Happy mistake. Even better once I realized that I could enable english subtitles in netflix :). Movie was "Kahaani".

I want to post something, even if it's not meaningful....

While I have a lot to say, this is not that *lol*. This is just to remind myself that as much as this format seems to lend itself to longer (meaningful?) posts and facebook to shorter pithy ones, I can actually post whatever I darn well please here. How can I even hope to go deep if I never enter the shallows anymore. Don't want the shock of diving in every time.

So good morning lj and it's been too long since I just treated you as a friend I can chat with. I had a great time at OVFF last weekend and plan a lovely relaxing weekend beginning today including Indian buffet food, lovely warm coffee and copious amounts of hot peppers, fresh ginger and other yumminess.

So hope your morning is going well and I'll see ya' later :).

Scenes from a trip....

Hee - another post from me in just a few days :).

So I had a whirlwind trip to the greater Boston area last weekend just to visit w/brother sdavido, sister-in-law vettecat, and nephew H. It was a lovely time that included shabbos celebrating, walking to two different parks one w/brother and nephew and one on my own, and just relaxing.

Enter for the travelogue. :)Collapse )

I've been reading here regularly but I've een wanting to get back into the habit of posting here too, so just decided to write a short post saying just that. Not sure if anyone bothers to read my journal anymore or if I'm speaking to the ether both options have there interesting positives and negatives *lol*. I guess once I got used to facebook I got used to the short pithy things I could post there and decided that lj should be for the involved stories (though I must admit this probably started happening pre-facebook). Problem is I never get around to translating them from head (or notes) to lj. So, as with other life changes I've undertaken, baby steps - starting with this short post. Hope you're all doing well!! I'm here, still me and still doing well. See ya. :)

The little things mean a lot....

From the "did you plug it in" files.... My laptop does not have an optical drive and I bought an apple super drive to use with it. So I went to use it for the first time and couldn't get it to work - would spin then eject disc. Finally, after almost tearing my hair out, I called apple-care. About the 3rd question she asked me - what's on the top of the drive. It was an apple on a black background - then I flipped it and noticed other side was silver and *doh* - it's been upside down. *face palm* Oh well - I'd rather be ignorant compared to having something wrong w/the hardware *lol*.

And yes it works now! :)

I've heard that three things equal a post.... ;)

I do need to get better at just posting blurby types of things - like on facebook. It might get me back into the habit of posting here. I do read though something that is just about impossible to keep up with on facebook, I finally had to admit.

Been doing lots of unpacking and rearranging and then more rearranging - lather, rinse, repeat. Trying to get back into the swing of my life and routine and with some blips and glitches it's going okay.

While I read more here, I've been posting a lot more to facebook but mainly surrounding morning rituals and such but I'll share three recent things here.

-Moved 5 large bookcases (last night) and still have two more to go but leaving those for now.

-Been exploring Netflix for a couple of weeks now seeing what's there. Gotta say, that after watching the first episode, House of Cards has just blown me away and renewed my awe for Kevin Spacey! Never seen the British version but might go there too. This has totally made up for losing some cable shows like The Newsroom. So yes cutting the cord just might be doable. :)

-Have had great results from a kinda "detox" I realized I needed to implement. My new condo has a water softener and I've been drinking the water since I moved in. Switched to filtered (there is small tap for cold filtered on sink or can use fridge) for drinking and cooking and starting to feel MUCH better already - especially noticing sense of taste. I'm oddly sensitive to some things so knew it was a long shot but possible. Love it when experiments work! :)

Hope you are all doing well - however many are still hanging around these parts.

see ya :).

Actually had a darned good week so far though I've been getting really frustrated with lots of idiocy and stops and starts over many things (including the phone installation falling through for the umpteenth time) but a lot has gotten accomplished - the painters are done and paid (though they left me a number of (uncovered) outlet and switch covers to replace *sigh*, I scheduled the movers the other day and will be reunited with my stuff on Wednesday, and I seem to now have a home phone and number - yay!!!!!

And this is what I got as my new home phone - AT&T's wireless home phone many cell carriers offer them now, so check your carrier of choice if interested. I actually had it up and running within two hours of walking into the store and they even let me choose my own new number in the store. Still some things to experiment with but so far I can get and receive a phone call and set up voicemail. Not a bad deal :).

Looking forward to returning to my usual, dull boring routine. *bounce* *bounce* *bounce* I've missed it so, though I have managed to cobble together a remarkable facsimile while in limbo :).
